Drexel University — Smart House, Philadelphia, PA
Our studio worked with students and faculty towards the restoration and renovation of the Drexel Smart House. The Smart House is a student led design project that is using a former fraternity house in Powelton Village as a case study to be used for the exploration of new building materials and systems, and as a model on how to sustainably restore and renovate Victorian era residential buildings. The multi-phase Smart House project is intended to be an educational tool for students and community alike. When complete it will serve as a flexible living-learning laboratory that will allow students to monitor, test and experiment with building materials, energy usage, and emerging building technologies. For the exterior renovations of the Smart House, we received an Outstanding Preservation Award from the University City Historical Society.
