Dick Winston

Principal, AIA

Richard Winston, AIA, is a co-founder and principal of O Z Collaborative, established in 2019 when BWA Architecture + Planning—the firm he and Morrie Zimmerman built together over three decades on a shared commitment to thoughtful design, technical excellence, and collaborative practice—merged with Richard Olaya's Olaya Studio. With more than 50 years of experience in architecture, construction, and project management, Dick brings a pragmatic and seasoned perspective to OZC's work. He has led significant projects for colleges and universities across the region, including the University of Pennsylvania, La Salle University, and Princeton University, offering expertise in campus planning, renovation, and new construction.

What sets Dick apart is his rare combination of architectural insight and more than 15 years of direct contracting experience. This dual background allows him to evaluate the constructability, sequencing, and cost-efficiency of design solutions with exceptional clarity. He is frequently sought after for his ability to guide the execution of complex projects and modifications to existing structures.

A longtime Philadelphia resident, Dick has made his home in several neighborhoods, including Mt. Airy, before settling in Old City. He and his wife now reside in a thoughtfully renovated loft of his own design, overlooking historic Christ Church.

Dick's commitment to the profession extends well beyond practice through his work as an educator. He has taught design at Drexel University and guest-lectured on professional practice at the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University.

His dedication to community service spans more than 30 years, volunteering his time and expertise with local organizations including the Community Design Collaborative, the Society of Friends, and numerous religious and nonprofit organizations throughout the region.
