Smart House

Drexel University

Philadelphia, PA

Drexel University commissioned O Z Collaborative to develop the design for the restoration and renovation of the Drexel Smart House. The Smart House is a student-led, hands-on case study that uses this former fraternity house in Powelton Village for sustainably restoring and adapting Victorian-era residential buildings. The multi-phase Smart House project was an educational tool for students and the community alike.

It serves as a flexible living-learning laboratory that allows students to monitor, test, and experiment with building materials, energy usage, and emerging building technologies.

For the exterior renovations of the Smart House, we received an Outstanding Preservation Award from the University City Historical Society.
